Not available on command, inspiration is at times a frustratingly elusive thing. But not so during the first Singö music fest, set in a uniquely preserved rural environment and soaked in an atmosphere of friendship and - yes, love. After the official concerts in the beautiful mid-18th century wooden church, where a fine mix of locals and outsiders, churchgoers, newcomers to free music and aficionados were treated to site-specific sonic explorations on organ, piano, saxophones, upright bass, electronics and rocks, traditional church coffee (homebaked chocolate delights!) and an art exhibition ensued over at the vicarage. Come evening,Tisha served up her delicious daal, after which, amidst cups overflowing with beer and wine, the piano was rolled in for the obligatory jam session. Windows wide open to the village, the music flowed freely into the darkening night.
And so at last we come to the unedited post-concert/post-jam jam After Hours, here for the first time available outside of the small circle of friends still huddled in the next-day afterglow of the vicarage living-room. Sure, sound levels could be evened out a bit here and there, but that's beside the point; what you have here is a strong and heart-felt tribute to the endurance of collaborative friendship and musicianship. - Thank you, Johan, Kristina, Elis, Hugo, Filippa, Edvard and all you others who made this happen. The communal spirit is alive and well in Singö!
